Hello sweets!
Oh my goodness, I never knew how much work really went into moving to a new place. I mean, I've done it before but it was more for a school related thing. I am starting a brand new chapter and I am so excited...new home, new job, new location, and above all, the new people I will be meeting.
In my last post I wrote about decorating the bedrooms, now I wanted to give a few pointers on moving to the location. I figure it could be of help since there are new college students moving to their new awesome schools...yea I know it isn't until the fall but still...it's good to start thinking about it right?
Ok so I did some research along with my brainstorming for this topic and here is what I came up with, let me know what you think :)
1. Develop a Plan: First think about the really important things you are going to need, like bathroom supplies, bedding, clothes, etc.
2. Numbers one and two are tied in my book. Number 2, I would say is, Resist shopping right away, think about what you truly need. Get the basics first and as the weeks go on once you are already at school, then take the time to stock up on what you need. It'll suck if you end up buying way more than you needed. Think about it, you'll end up with an overcrowded dorm, and remember, dorms are not the biggest space.
3. When you are packing, Be a Smart Packer...meaning, fill up the spaces. Condense the small stuff in the big stuff. Pack fragile belongings in bags, inside shirts, etc. Believe me, condensing everything will also cut out trips to the car and back up to your dorm. You don't know what floor you'll be on until moving day so be prepared. Those trips can be killer...talk about good dosage of exercise.
4. AVOID RUSH HOUR on move in day. If you can, move in during the week versus on the weekend. If you move during the week, you'll have less people to deal with PLUS you'll be well situated by the weekend and you'll have more time to meet your roommates and/or explore the campus while everyone else is scurrying to get everything moved in.
5. Leave the Decorating for the End of the Move. I have found that if you work big to small, you'll get a better sense and flow of the space, you'll have your own little home in no time with a taste of your style. Don't stress about decorating, go with the flow, if you rush it, it'll be messy and not mesh well.
I hope this was helpful lovies :)
XO,
AP
